What is it with Sarah Palin? I assumed with the election over and neatly wrapped up, she would slip into anonymity a'la Dan Quail. What politician wouldn't want to go back to the office where they enjoy power and an 80% popularity rating? Apparently not Sarah.
I know she had to stick around to dispel those nasty internet hoax rumors (she is not as dumb as her detractors what her to be), but having said that, I think it would be best for Governor Palin to lay low for a while. I liked her as the Vice Presidential pick because she was just what McCain needed at the time. The Democrats had the world stage, and were using that to full advantage. The Republicans needed something to dilute the media juggernaut and Palin was it. Unfortunately Governor Palin's inexperience and lack of DC shmooz soon made her a lightning rod for all that was wrong with the Republican presidential campaign. To her credit, she gracefully endured more malicious, mean-spirited criticism than any male Vice Presidential candidate would ever face. Luckily for her, American voters have an astonishingly short memory (Ted Kennedy, Charlie Rangel, Barney Frank) and that could work to Palin's advantage. If she spends the next four years hitting the books, studying government at the federal level, and working on handling adverse media questions (Biden: "Are you joking?"), she may be a viable conservative candidate in 2012. From what I've seen, she has the capacity, intelligence and ambition to accomplish that goal if she wants it badly enough.
