As I write this, I can hardly see the words on the monitor screen. I am listening to the health care summit in the background, and the litany of pitiful stories is causing tears to well up in my eyes. We've got Harry Reid and the cleft palate baby, and Steny Hoyer who's friend couldn't come up with 50% down for a cancer operation. Then there is the sad case of Billy the burlap boy.
You see, little Billy has nothing but a burlap bag for a body. His family is so poor that Billy's folks had to sell his organs just to put food on the table and pay their mortgage. Well, then there is that boat in the driveway, but Billy loves it so much when his dad props him up on the bow or allows him to flutter in the breeze from the flagpole. That little guy never stops smiling. What a trooper! It's because of kids like Billy that we should feel compelled to spend trillions of dollars and form 111 new federal departments and agencies that will determine how to most effectively spend our health care dollars. If only we could all get along and agree to pass 2,400 pages of incomprehensible legislation, kids like Billy would be able to enjoy their tiny pitiful little lives, and be saved by big government intervention. OK, before I am accused of being a heartless bastard, let me get to the point. Supporters in Congress of Obamacare, are short on details. I still don't believe most of them actually know what is contained in the document. I'm beginning to believe they don't care. They just want to pass something...anything. At the summit interestingly enough, is seems, each time a minority member attempted to deal with details of the bill, President Obama, acting as the "moderator" cut them off, and redirected the conversation. Democrat colleagues however were allowed to speak on unimpeded, including their many sad stories of innocent Americans being victimized by the current system. Almost everyone recognizes that we need to take care of our fellow Americans. Quality medical care should be available to everyone, at a reasonable price. Catastrophic illnesses should not bankrupt people, and medical fraud should be vigorously prosecuted. All of these things can be done without destroying the economy of this Country or adding new, huge bureaucracies. Pure and simple: America can not afford Obamacare as proposed by this Administration and Congress. Conservatives understand that; Americans understand that. Unfortunately, the Progressives that are currently running this Country don't and never will.
