Congratulations President Obama.  I did not vote for you, but enough Americans did to award you the election.  Tonight you party, but tomorrow the hard work begins.  It would be easy to blame the past administration for all that is wrong with this Country, but that is no longer relevant.  All that matters now is the future and how we are going to approach and attempt to resolve our issues.

The media makes much of your race.  I don’t care and never did.  What concerns me is your political philosophy and your ability to move this Country forward.  You appear to be a good and decent family man and father, and like your predecessor, love your Country and want what is best for it’s citizens.  Although these are basic conservative core values, we differ greatly on how to direct our Country forward toward peace and prosperity.  I did not elect you, but you are now my President, and I will afford you and the office you occupy, the respect that many Liberals would not grant to George W. Bush, even as he left Washington for the last time.

I will support you when I can, and oppose you when I must, because we cannot survive if you fail.  You must be successful, there is no other course, and it is the responsibility of all Americans to assist you in this endeavor.  I hope you have the wisdom to end policies that don’t work, and continue the ones that do, regardless of partisanship.  I believe you will find some of the most unpopular programs of the last administration must be continued, not because they are models of modern government and diplomacy, but because they were truly the best choice among many lousy alternatives.

You will probably never be more popular with the American people than you are today.  Hopefully if political fortunes change (as they invariably do), you will be granted the patience of the people when you find there is a huge difference between the promises of the campaign and delivery of the economic reality.  Finally, I ask you to stand up to Congress.  They are used to running the show, and intend to continue regardless of the wishes and concerns of the Executive branch.  If you are tough and do what is right, you will give me a reason to support you.  Set aside the Constitution, nationalize America’s businesses or burden my children with unending debt, and I will oppose you every inch of the way.
